Stop Industrial Carbon Pollution

Recently, the Environmental Protection Agency released a draft of exemplary standards under the Clean Air Act to curtail the industrial carbon pollution from new power plants. African Americans are disproportionately impacted by air pollution: 71% of African Americans live in counties in violation of air pollution standards and African Americans are twice as likely to die from asthma and more likely to die from lung disease in spite of lower smoking rates.

This is unacceptable -- take action now and send a message to EPA Director Lisa Jackson and the Environmental Protection Agency stating your support for the Carbon Pollution Standards.

Below is a sample message to send to the EPA.

Dear Environmental Protection Agency,

I strongly support the Carbon Pollution Standards that have been recently released. It is important that the EPA move forward in its decision to limit carbon pollution for the protection of public health. These standards will set the tone that we MUST protect the people and the environment. As you know already, 71% of African Americans live in counties in violation of air pollution standards and African Americans are twice as likely to die from asthma and more likely to die from lung disease in spite of lower smoking rates. Through the proposed carbon pollution standards it can set the pathway to reduce environmental injustices and protect the most vulnerable in communities across the U.S.

I again state I strongly urge and support continued work on standards for existing plants and finalizing the carbon pollution standards for new plants. Big polluters must be held accountable.  By using these standards would mean protection all people.
